MSLF 2020 explores the qasbas of Awadh, suburban settlements that predate cities and served as centres of Sufi and Bhakti traditions, learning, and cultural expression. Known for their folk theatre, poetry, festivals, crafts, and syncretic ethos, qasbas deeply influenced Lucknow’s customs, cuisine, and artistic heritage. The festival examines the decline of traditional practices while celebrating the qasbati tehzeeb through performances, discussions, and exhibitions, highlighting its lasting impact on Awadhi culture and identity.
